Blocking users is a function often employed on social media to stifle critics. The justices, hearing about three hours of arguments, focused on spelling out the circumstances for deciding whether public officials were acting in their personal capacity when blocking critics or engaged in a "state action." Conservative Justice Samuel Alito cited a hypothetical town manager who puts a municipal seal on his own social media page and tells citizens to express their views. Under this test, Mooppan argued, the social media activity of his clients was not governmental. Some justices asked whether requiring public officials to include disclaimers on their personal pages making clear their social media activity is not governmental would help disentangle their private and public capacities.

A German company is building a constellation of satellites to detect fires from space. “They’re trained very specifically to detect smoke or not, and we train them with images of smoke and images of not smoke,” CEO Sonia Kastner said. The cameras help detect fires quicker and get teams on the ground faster, shaving up to two hours off response times. German startup OroraTech analyzes satellite images with artificial intelligence. "There are algorithms on the satellite, very efficient ones to detect fires even faster," CEO Thomas Gruebler said.

It's a tricky time for those nearing retirement: markets are persistently volatile and inflation is eating away at cash. Despite the uncertainty, asset managers and analysts says it's important to remain invested if you're nearing retirement or are already retired. However, the recent surge in bond yields presents an opportunity for retirement investors, said Willis. Choose stocks wisely Wells Fargo Investment Institute's Willis agreed that instead of completely abandoning stocks, the key for those nearing retirement might be a tweak in strategy. "Tactically there could be a counter trend rally in global equities under way from the September low right now in October."
